A "United We Serve" Initiative Event

Note the change to location and time

The White House and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) requested help from AIGA members in promoting public service opportunities in their communities during the “United We Serve” initiative, a summer of community involvement culminating in a National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11, 2009.

AIGA Jacksonville is getting involved in the “United We Serve” initiative through several hands-on outreach initiatives beginning with a project on Saturday, August 22, from 8:30 a.m. to Noon, in which we as AIGA members will spruce up the gardens at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens, 120 acres of natural preserve displaying a variety of native flora and fauna. The Arboretum offers a number or trails for the public to enjoy and is open 7 days a week. Volunteers will help maintain the trails, pull weeds and invasive plant species and other tasks.

HOJ and the Arboretum will provide some tools and gloves, however we highly encourage volunteers to bring hand tools from home. We really need hedge trimmers, clippers and other hand held tools.

Water will be provided for you however we encourage you to bring light snacks and fruit to keep your energy levels up in the heat. If you are available to help we would love to have your assistance for the three and a half hours we will be there.

We will be recording our experience through photos and videos to submit to the AIGA national web site, and to use as a tool to inspire our members to reach out to the community on future endeavors.

If you are interested in helping out, please RSVP through or Facebook. See you on August 22 at 8:30 a.m.! If you want to help us record this experience or if you have any questions, please shoot an e-mail to .
