The Importance of Passion Projects
The 22nd Annual AIGA Jacksonville Student Portfolio Review kicks off Friday, April 15, with an inspirational evening with designer Mig Reyes.
“My topic is about the importance of passion projects, and being your own permission giver,” Mig says. “I’ll share how I got to where I am, and what some of my own college experiences were like.”
Mig is a designer from Chicago, creating for the web within the confines of t-shirt awesome, best known as Threadless. He also writes, teaches and speaks about his passions and his work.
Every now and again you can find him speaking about Threadless, design and other general awesomeness at colleges, conferences and other work places. Some of these people and places include the AIGA, HOW Design Conference, PSFK, The School of Visual Arts and Zappos.
A typical Mig presentation includes plenty of process and stuff behind the scenes. Less of show and tell, more of how and why. They are usually funny. Mostly. Sometimes. They also may or may not include a dance party before the presentation even begins.
“I’ve worked with some really great design studios and agencies, now happily working as an interactive designer at the world’s most awesome t-shirt company: Threadless. Beyond making the internets and modeling tees, I’m passionate about experimenting on side projects and collaborating with other creative types. I’m into paying positive experiences forward, so I serve as a mentor in AIGA, as well as lecture at colleges and conferences. I also teach at The Chicago Portfolio School, sharing my work experiences with my students. But beyond all that design stuff, I’m also way into craft beer, pizza and dance parties. Usually all together. So, we should be friends."
You should follow Mig on Twitter.
This event is open to everyone.
